Das Landesschützen-Bataillon XVIII/XI wurde bei der Mobilmachung am 26. August 1939 im Wehrkreis XI aufgestellt. Das Bataillon wurde zu 4 Kompanien aufgestellt. Nach der Aufstellung wurde das Bataillon weiter im Wehrkreis XI eingesetzt. Am 1. Oktober 1939 wurde das Bataillon in Landesschützen-Bataillon VI/XI umbenannt. Gleichzeitig wurde durch Umbenennung des Landesschützen-Bataillon XXI/XI ein neues Landesschützen-Bataillon XVIII/XI aufgestellt. Ab Ende Oktober 1939 unterstand das Bataillon der Division z.b.V. 411. Im März 1940 war das Bataillon in Magdeburg, ebenfalls Wehrkreis XI, stationiert. Am 1. April 1940 wurde das Bataillon in Magdeburg in Landesschützen-Bataillon 718 umbenannt. Das Bataillon unterstand weiter der Division z.b.V. 411 und war in Magdeburg stationiert. Ab Ende 1940 war das Bataillon in Altengrabow, ebenfalls Wehrkreis XI, stationiert. Ab 1943 wurde das Bataillon in Halberstadt, ebenfalls Wehrkreis XI, stationiert.

Für die Ersatzgestellung des Bataillons war das Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 11 zuständig.
