Feldpostnummern ab der Mobilmachung: Das Bataillon wurde als Bau-Bataillon 136 in der Feldpostübersicht eingetragen. Am 23. September 1943 wurde das Bataillon in Bau-Pionier-Bataillon 136 umbenannt.

Das Bau-Bataillon 136 wurde bei der Mobilmachung am 26. August 1939 in Gerolstein, im Wehrkreis XII, aufgestellt. Das Bataillon wurde aus RAD-Einheiten als Heerestruppe aufgestellt. Anfangs wurde das Bataillon bei der 5. Armee im Westen eingesetzt. Im Februar 1940 wurde das Bataillon im Wehrkreis IV zum Bau-Bataillon 136 der Wehrmacht umgegliedert. Das Bataillon wurde danach wieder im Westen eingesetzt. Zu Beginn des Ostfeldzuges war das Bataillon beim Angriff auf Mittelrussland im Einsatz. Dabei unterstand unterstand das Bataillon anfangs der 4. Armee. Ende 1941 unterstand das Bataillon der Panzergruppe 4. Mitte 1942 unterstand das Bataillon der 3. Panzerarmee. Später wurde das Bataillon im Raum Witebsk eingesetzt. Am 19. August 1943 wurde das Bataillon in Baupionier-Bataillon 136 umbenannt. Anfang 1945 wurde das Bataillon unter der 3. Panzerarmee in Ostpreußen eingesetzt. Zuletzt wurde das Bataillon 1945 in Ostpreußen unter dem IX. Armeekorps eingesetzt.

Ersatztruppenteil für das Bataillon war anfangs das Bau-Ersatz-Bataillon 12. Ab Februar 1940 übernahm das Bau-Ersatz-Bataillon 4 diese Aufgabe.
